Following medical school, Dr. Engle completed a transitional year internship in Internal Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (2007–2008). Afterwards Dr. Engle participated in a 1-year NIH funded ocular surface research fellowship at the Jules Stein Eye Institute at UCLA. He then remained at prestigious Jules Stein Eye Institute from 2009 to 2012, where he trained alongside pioneers in corneal, anterior segment, and refractive surgery.
To further refine his surgical expertise, Dr. Engle completed an additional year of specialized fellowship training in cornea, cataract, and refractive surgery at the University of Colorado, Aurora (2012–2013). This elite program—recognized as one of the top clinical fellowships in the country for anterior segment surgery—was the first in the nation to train its residents and fellows on the LenSx® femtosecond laser for cataract surgery. Dr. Engle was among the inaugural group of fellows to receive this advanced LenSx training, gaining early experience with one of the most innovative technologies in modern cataract surgery.
